A Guide on Defragging / Cleaning Your Hard Drive

Posted by Serges LaRiviere on Wed, Apr 25, 2012

If your PC is running slow, defragmentating your hard drive can have an explosive effect on all of your computers performance. The Windows defragmenter utility is perfectly capable of keeping your hard drive in order but if you want to squeeze even more performance out of your computer try Puran Defrag Free from puransoftware.com.

Puran works in much the same way as Windows does but it can also go further. After installing and launching the software switch to the Additional Operations tab and tick Boost Overall System Speed By Puran Intelligent Optimizer. Switch back to Main, click Analyze and then click Defrag to defragment your drive and optimize it at the same time. You can even go further by clicking Boot Time Defrag and choose Restart > defrag > Restart + Disk Check to ensure all files on the drive are defragged. Some of these files are inaccessible to the Windows Defragmenter tool.

The default setting in Puran Defra Free does no run automatically but to ensure that it does so you can keep your drive defragged without you having to think about it follow these steps. Open up the program again and switch to the Automatic Defragmentation tab. Leave Automatic Defragmentation selected and click Next. Leave all your hard drives selected, then select Defrag Selected Drives When System is Idle. Change the setting to 10 minutes and tick the One defrag per box and select 03 so that it only runs twice a week. Then click Next, leave CPU usage at 10 percent and then click Next again. You then want to give the process a name like Monthly Defrag for example and then click Finish.

Now click Add again, select Automatic Boot Time Defragmentation and only your Windows drive, C in most cases. Choose Optimize Directories and Fast PIOZR. Choose the last option and pick 30 from the drop-down list so the more thorough boot-time defragmentation occurs only once a month. Click Next, name this Deep Defrag and click Finish.

OK, now that you have completed the process, Puran Defrag Free will keep your drive defragged and running in tip-top condition.
